Presentation of the initiative
PSL (Paris Sciences et Lettres), the French School of Rome, CéSor (Centre of Religious Studies in Social Sciences) and the University of Bari Aldo Moro finance the first edition was the summer school IIPS- paleographic International Itinerant School. The initiative   - support by   the Collège de France, the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences in Paris, the National School of Charters, the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, Sapienza University of Rome and the University of Cassino - will be divided into two phases of seven days each and will take place in Italy, specifically in

 
Bari and Florence from 14 to 20 May 2017
and
Rome and Naples from 21 to 28 May 2017

 
The area concerned is that of books, inscriptions and ancient and medieval archive documents. This training initiative to research by the research will concern this year thirty fellows, and will include seminars, conferences and seminars, visits Vallicelliana and Corsiniana libraries of Rome, Vittorio Emanuele III of Naples, Medicea Laurenziana of Florence, in the Istituto papirologico G. Vitelli of Florence, in the Officina dei Papiri "Marcello Gigante" of Naples, in the archive of the Bari Cathedral, in the Istituto di patologia del libro de Rome and the archaeological sites of the Roman Forum, to Pompeii and Herculaneum. The IIPS provides for the establishment of a project on comparative and interdisciplinary relating to products and materials circulating in the Mediterranean between antiquity and the Middle Ages (papyri, ostraca, scrolls, codices, inscriptions and Greek, Latin epigraphs, Arabs, Jews). The aim of the operation is twofold: on one hand, seminars, conferences - held by a teaching team of five faculty members from thirteen European universities and research institutes - will provide a unique opportunity for scientific education of international scope ; on the other, through visits, seminars, young researchers will be in contact with the originals and can learn about all the operations concerning the manuscripts (since the restoration, conservation, museum development up study and publication). Thus, faculty, researchers and technicians training meet around objects in their care, and discuss in a diachronic perspective and comparative, showcasing a variety of skills, knowledge and cultural patterns.

a) a visit to the seminary library Vittorio Emanuele III and the Officina dei Papiri "Marcello Gigante" on Byzantine manuscripts and papyrus charred Herculaneum (led by Filippo Ronconi and Gianluca Del Mastro)
b) a day on the archaeological excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
